DRJ Wellness stunned previously unbeaten Leman’s Hardware Silay, 88-71, to barge into the win column after three straight setbacks in the Ayala Basketball-Kalimansi Mix Cup at Northpoint Clubhouse in Talisay City Monday night.
Sugarland Hardware Painters rained triples in the second match to trash defending champion Vermilion, 126-82, in the second match.
Both Leman’s and Vermilion hope to bounce back from their Monday losses when they clash with separate rivals tonight -- the defending champion against HiFlex and Leman’s versus Sugarland in the second.
Kevin Lacson was unstoppable underneath the rim as he bullied his way to 25 points to lead DRJ’s offensive charge while Chac Mirano backstopped him with 21 points.
Joining them in double figures were Leon Bautista and Luigino Lacson with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Mark Antonio led Leman’s with 15 points, Xavier Vinco added 14 while Vincent Tan and Dante Ma combined for 21 points.
The win prevented a shutout for DRJ at the end of the first round as Leman’s (2-1) held on to the lead despite the loss.
In the second game, waxed hot as they with 15 conversions from beyond the arc as the Painter were running and gunning the whole game with seven players ending up in double figures. Robby Jalandoon made 21 points, including four triples to lead his team, which has also a 2-1 card, along with HiFlex.
Tommy Andren added 16 points while DJ Javier and Ramon Khey had 14 each.
Joey Jesena also made four three-pointers en route to 13 points while Willy Dasal and Jason Denosta combined for another 23 points.
Carlo Chu topscored for Vermillion with 20 points and was supported by Japeth Cua’s 17. Mark Abaja and Paulo Tibaja added 12 apiece.
